Shri Bhalka Tirth

🛕 Shri Bhalka Tirth: The Divine Abode of Hari and Har in Prabhas Teerth Just as Prabhas Teerth (Prabhas Patan) is a great Shaiva Teerth (pilgrimage site of Lord Shiva) because of Lord Shri Somnath, it is also a great Vaishnava Teerth (pilgrimage site of Lord Vishnu) because of Lord Shri Krishna. Lord Krishna was born in Mathura, spent his childhood in Gokul, ruled his kingdom from Dwarka, and left his mortal body in Prabhas. Thus, as this is the final resting place of Lord Krishna's Leela (divine play), it is an immensely sacred and great pilgrimage destination for every Hindu. The holy and ancient Shri Bhalka Tirth is located on the route from Veraval to Prabhas Patan. It was here that Lord Shri Krishna was resting in Yoga Samadhi (deep yogic meditation) under a Peepal tree. At that time, mistaking Him for a deer, a hunter named Jara shot an arrow that pierced the sole of His foot. After shooting the arrow, the hunter quickly approached to catch the deer. But instead of a deer, he had the Darshan (holy viewing) of Purushottam (the Supreme Being) Shri Krishna, wearing a Pitambar (yellow garment) and resting in a yogic state. He begged for Lord Shri Krishna's forgiveness for his grave mistake. Shri Krishna forgave him, consoled him, and explained that all of this had happened by His own divine will. After this, Lord Shri Krishna departed for His heavenly abode, Vaikuntha Dham. In Chapter 353 of the Prabhas Khand of the Skanda Purana, Lord Shri Krishna tells the hunter Jara: "Because you pierced the sole of my foot here with a Bhall (arrow), this place will become famous by the name of Bhalka Tirth." 🛕 Religious Significance This place is considered supremely holy in Hindu Dharma because it is here that Lord Shri Krishna concluded His Leela of the Dwapar Yuga. There is a strong belief that having Darshan here grants a person Moksha (salvation). The holy scriptures state that visiting this sacred site grants the exact same spiritual reward (Phal) as completing the entire Char Dham Yatra.
