Geeta Mandir (Shri Dehotsarg)

🛕 Geeta Mandir (Shri Dehotsarg) History: This sacred place is located on the banks of the Hiranya River near the Triveni Sangam. After the great Yogeshwar Shri Krishna entered Mahasamadhi at Bhalka Tirth and departed for His heavenly abode, the final rites (Agni Sanskar) of His mortal body were performed right here on the banks of the holy Hiranya River. According to the Mausala Parva of the Mahabharata, Shri Krishna's close friend Arjuna, with the help of family members, located the mortal bodies of Shri Krishna and Balaramji in the forest and respectfully performed their final rites here according to proper traditions. Because of this, the place named Dehotsarg (the place of giving up the body) became an extremely divine Teerth (pilgrimage site). Here, under a Peepal tree, the sacred footprints (Shri Charan) of Yogeshwar Shri Krishna have been installed. Pilgrims offer water to this Peepal tree for the eternal peace of their departed loved ones and take Darshan of Lord Shri Krishna's divine footprints. The glory of this holy site is beautifully described in the Skanda Purana. To remind devotees of the divine message given by the singer of the Bhagavad Gita, Yogeshwar Shri Krishna, the Geeta Mandir was built here. It features eighteen beautiful marble pillars. Each of the 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita is carved onto one of these pillars. The Pran Pratishtha (consecration) of the mesmerizing marble idol of Lord Shri Krishna in this temple was completed on April 20, 1963, by Maharaja Jam Saheb Shri Digvijaysinhji, the then Chairman of the Shri Somnath Trust. Right next to this temple is the Shri Laxminarayan Temple. This was an ancient site upon which the Shri Somnath Trust built a new temple. The Pratishtha ceremony for the idols of Goddess Laxmi and Lord Narayan was performed on May 3, 1976, by Shri Jaisukhlal Hathi, a trustee of the Somnath Trust. 🛕 Why Did Lord Shri Krishna Choose Prabhas Teerth for Dehotsarg? In the Prabhas Khand of the Skanda Purana, a story is told through a conversation between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati asks why Lord Shri Krishna (the direct avatar of Lord Vishnu) left the highly holy city of Dwaravati (Dwarka)—which was already full of many pilgrimage sites—and came specifically to Prabhas for His Dehotsarg (leaving the mortal body). Answering Goddess Parvati's question, Lord Shiva explains that while there are millions of other pilgrimage sites, this Prabhas Kshetra possesses countless unique virtues. This region contains all three supreme elements: Brahma Tattva, Vishnu Tattva, and Rudra Tattva. These three divine elements are not found together in any other Teerth. Lord Brahma resides in this area with 24 elements, Lord Narayan with 25 elements, and Lord Rudra with 26 elements. Furthermore, the pilgrimage sites of the Panch Mahabhoot (the five great elements of nature) are also located here. For this profound and divine reason, Lord Narayan (Shri Krishna) chose this specific Teerth for His Dehotsarg. (Skanda Purana, Prabhas Khand - Chapter 9).
