The Geographical Marvel: Baan Stambh (The Arrow Pillar)
Situated on the fortified stone boundary wall to the south of the temple facing the sea, the Baan Stambh is a fascinating directional pillar topped with a globe and an arrow. It marks the Jyotirmarg (Path of Light), signifying a remarkable geographic reality: from the exact alignment of the Somnath Shivalinga, there is a completely unobstructed straight line all the way to the Earth's South Pole. Traversing the Ratnakar (Arabian Sea), the Indian Ocean, and the Southern Ocean, this trajectory encounters absolutely no landmass—only an endless expanse of water. This unique orientation bestows the temple grounds with profound geographical and mystical importance.
Vallabhghat: A Vow of Resurgence
Located along the serene coastline of the temple complex is Vallabhghat, a seafront stepped area holding immense historical and emotional resonance. It was at this exact spot that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel gathered seawater in his hands and took a solemn, historic vow (Pratigya) to rebuild the majestic Somnath Temple from its ruins.
